First post for me i'm the cuz of Krunk

okie I was going over the new Staples Advertisement for Sep 1st - Saturday, Sep 7th which you can check out at Staples and they had a Epson 785EPX for $149.99. Theres a Staples coupon for $30 off $150 (you'll need to add paper clips?) and theres a Staples GC that comes in for another 30 dollors

so its
149.99 + some paper clips
150ish
-30 off 150
- 30 GC
------------------
89.99 + tax

This is for B&M in my area which is So Cal.

i hope this is a good deal or am i just screwing myself

CNET seems to like it: Link to review

However, I think that the $30 GC can't be applied to this purchase. I think it's for a future purchase at Staples. Correct me if I'm wrong because I haven't actually seen the Staples ad yet!

It is an awesome printer for printing photos. Not many photo printers can rival the quality. You would be hard pressed to tell the difference between
a photo printed with this printer on premium glossy photo paper and a regular film camera print.

I have the Epson 820 (got it for $44!) but I must say the photo quality is simply amazing. For $90, you'll get some truly photographic printouts. I think the print quality for the 785 and 820 is the same (both use 6 color inks) but the 785 also has a flashcard reader. Anyways, check Epson for specs.

For anyone considering this printer...

I have the Stylus Photo 870, which is essentially the 785 without the card slot. Great printers, but prepare to eat many expensive ink cartridges. All the Epson photo printers have a feature in their print drivers that allow you to see how much ink is left in each ink well. The cartrdiges have an IC on them that supports this, and because of the chip, these cartridges are dificult to re-fill. There are now generic print cartridges (new but not from Epson) that come with a properly programmed chip, but I haven't tried them yet. They are available from megatoners.com, do a search on megatoners and you'll find lots of positive feedback on this vendor. If you want the OEM cartridges, Epson sells them online at a very fair price.

We've had very good luck with standard Epson photo glossy paper, which is $20/100 sheets at Costco. The Premium Glossy Photo Paper is insanely expensive,

The Stylus Photo 820 is not (IMO) of comparable quality. We just tried 2 of them on my Mother In Law's computer, and saw significant image problems. Replaced the last one with a 785EPX, and all the problems were resolved.

This is an awesome deal. I paid $250 for my 870.

You must not be have been doing something correctly because the 820 prints flawlessly for me.

Megatoners.com is a great place to get cheap Epson carts.. and the quality of prints with them is just as good.

Office Max has the same deal 2 weeks ago, and it might still be alive. This printer is just awesome. It comes with a CF adapter, but you can exchange for a SM adapter free from Epson.

It is a VERY GOOD PHOTO PRINTER. I have the 820 and the only difference, like somebody else said is that it has a smart card reader or send in for the memory stick reader. One more big difference is that it will take the 4X6 spool of photo paper.:)

Been using this forum for about 3 or 4 years and this is my first response...wow...

Anyways, I bought this printer for 150 at costco and I love it. I also bought the hp 5550, which was its competition and the epson blows it out of the water. THe print quality is outstanding, however, the software isnt that good and on my computer it has issues with printing on the highest qualities with photoshop. I currently use the software that came with the hp 5550, its much better.

The prints are about as good as you would get on dotphoto.com, ophoto.com, shutterfly.com or any of those companies, although not quite at the level of film prints.

The ink prices are alright, about 20-25 for each cartridge which will last through about 30 pages at the highest quality on photopaper. Costco also sells the kodak premium glossy photo paper 100pk for $26, which is better than the epson paper.

The only complaint I have about this printer is the speed and that the gears on the paper feeder leave small rows of impressions down the paper. The rows of dots are a common problem according to all the reviews I've read, but they are barely noticeable.

Overall, great printer...good price!

There's also a $50 rebate on the printer before 8/31 if you've purchased certain digital cameras.

no Canon cameras :(

personally, i'd wait for the new c82/c62/825/925 (i think) to come out in sept. hopefully, the price of the current printers will drop.

Wait....you can't use the GC towards the purchase of the printer because you send away for the GC. It's good towards another purchase at Staples. Maybe you can buy ink :)

Anyway, I've been drooling over this printer since Christmas last year. It normally sold for $149, so if you can get it for $120 or less, it's a pretty good deal.

I bought this printer from staples last week for 149.99 + 0.69 pencil - 30 coup=120.68 + 30 gift card good only at BM (you have to send in for it). I've been watching this printer to drop from $199. It's a great printer and prints amazing photos! 100% better than my old Epson 700 photo!!!
