I bought this at a Staples B&M in Exton, PA.

Cendyne drive, Model CW 4001
Full retail packaging, comes with Nero Express, 1 Blank CD, Cables.

This was not from the clearance, this is a "regular" buy.

Price: $59.94
Rebate is for $30, good 10/27/2002 through 11/09/2002

I don't think you can go wrong on this one.

EDIT: The drive has analog and digital audio outputs, if that matteres to anybody.

hansmuff, can you please post the model number and/or manufacturer listed on the drive itself?

I'm disappointed though, this drive takes up much more resources when burning than my old SCSI 8X Sony. even when burning at slow speeds like 8X-16X.

Gotcha, hansmuff. I was hoping to see a LiteOn part number attached to this drive. Such it not to be, unfortunately.

Well, I ran it through some tests.

It copied 3 different SafeDisc 1/2 protected CDs at full speed (3 min 10 seconds) and the protections all work. 6-10% CPU on a 1.4GHz Athlon.
I don't know what kind of buffer underrun protection this has, but Nero says it's BurnPROOF.

I'm pretty happy with it so far.

well, considering the closest OM is ~2hrs or so away, I'm opting to look for things at staples ;)

BTW, is anyone else noticing that when you add the drive to your cart, it doesn't reflect the discount...

Heh.. I come from an 8x drive. 40x is amazingly fast to me. Actually 3 times as fast as 8x, which is really great.
The fact that it copies SafeDisc 2 makes me the happiest though, my Plextor 8x just could not do it.

My local Staples had 6 of these in-stock. All Optirites. Yuk.

I passed.
