Stange Problem with Win2k

Okay...here's a question:

Every now and again when I open up a movie file (avi, quictime, mpg...whatever), I get some kind of error, and if I click OK, it closes explorer....and every once and a while, my task bar doesn't reappear. I then have to ctrl-alt-delete, logout, and log back in in order for everything to be as usual. Has anyone ever seen this?? Any ideas on how to fix it?? I had a 2k install over the summer where I had the same problem but the taskbar always came back, but after a new hd and a new install...I have the problem.

Thanks in advance for any info...

What does the error say? So you're viewing AVI's, quicktime, MPEG etc. and then Explorer stops responding? What version of IE are you using? Do you have SP2? What version of DirectX are you running? (doubt this would do it, but you never know if the prog is looking for a DX API )

Yes I do have SP2...I don't know about Direct X...but the error says something to the extent of "Error at (hex address), The Memory could not be Read", and it gives me okay/cancel.
