Standing at your Desk

Does anyone have an office where they actually do their work standing at their desk? I.e. computer related work where you stand and use mouse/keyboard with the monitors at eye level?

Curious to know how it is and if you feel it is much better than sitting? I am considering proposing it to my boss so I can try it out. I find that I slouch a lot when at my desk and want to try to correct that.

Not anymore, but when I was a business agent for the union, our dispatch desk had a similar setup at the counter for use when working with members. (also at the dispatch desk)
For me, having to stand all day would be...painful at best.

Not here, but I've heard of people doing it in office settings.
When I worked in the pharmacy I was mostly doing data entry, and standing, but I did a lot of moving around there...

I got an electric desk with buttons to make it go up and down. I swap between sitting and standing occasionally. Supposedly it's hella ergonomic to do that.

Yeah a lot of people have that where I work too. I can't really work out why unless you have some sort of back problem though.

Sitting is boring ... standing keeps the blood flowing faster..

I'd prefer to be on my feet, at least a few hours of the day, just to keep better focus and keep the pace up.

i stand up whenever something is compiling or w/e. would be cool if my monitors and keyboard could rise with me.

When I had a desk job I was on the phone all the time. I like to stand up and pace a bit while I'm on the phone talking business.

Now I'm either sitting on my ass driving, or standing in front of a machine, but inbetween those I get quite a bit of freedom to move. I like it. Remaining stationary in any position just doesn't suit me.

You can get a standing desk at my office and some people do, but they're typically the people that seem not to do very much, and need to make sure they buy every ergonomic armrest and footstool they can for their hours of daily web browsing.

I had a coworker who experimented with standing at his desk for the full 9 hour day. He said his back felt better but his feet were sore. Gave it up after about a week.

A foreman's desk with a stool is a good idea sometimes. Not so good for looking at porn though.

What's standing up going to do for the pace? Is he going to jog in place while he's standing there working? Pretty sure you heart rate at rest is the same whether you're standing or sitting.

Thanks guys, I'm just tired and literally sore of sitting all day. I can't find a chair that makes me sit properly so I figured I would give standing a shot.

no but there was a douchebag at my last job who would stand up and walk around/outside his cubicle (as far as the phone cord would reach) and talk to customers. This was a helpdesk position. I think he just liked to have everyone hear what he was saying so they thought he was smart or something.

I've been curious about these for the same reason (and I'm in a cube-ish environment, so can't get a fancy schmancy raise/lower desk).

I'm really tall, though, and think those chairs would put me too high up.

You'd burn more [fat]calories standing over sitting. It adds up if you do it 8hrs/day 5 days a week.

We have some invalids that need to stand so they have a desk that raises to standing height and lowers to sitting level when needed.

one thing i like a lot about my job - its in a mall so randomly throughout the day i'll just go for a walk.

i also walk more in general now that i take the train to work.

well there are elevators to a few high rises throughout this mall. this mall is odd though with like no big chain stores at all, other than a few restaurants. i don't even know if I'd consider it a mall heh. it's all underground as well, well most of it is.
