Standby problems in W2k

Whenever I put my computer on standby, it goes to sleep fine, but when I wake it up, it always makes a horrible high screech that is constantly on. BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP. Then, if I just unplug the speakers, everything else works fine, but of course I have no sound, and if I plug the speakers back in, then I get the screeching noise again. Now, I have an unusual sort of OEM Sound Card/Modem combo from Conexant. Does anyone know a way I could fix the computer so that if I bring it out of standby, it wouldn't make this terrible noise?

stupid answer but replace the darn soundcard. dont u want good sound from ur speakers. i am sure that the sound card u have right now works well. but i would not think as good as the good sound cards in the market today which run from $60 to $100.
