Standby mode in XP

If I were to put my computer into standby, could I turn off all the fans, or would I have to leave one running at low voltage (maybe 30% power) to keep the CPU from reaching temps too high. The reason I ask is because when I put my parent's HP into standby the fan is wired to the mobo, thus it powers down, if not completely off. My fans are wired to my powersupply, thus they do not power down when the computer enters standby.
