Another one of those great theories? ugh... i'm trying to save a little power and my hearing by making the computer go into Standby mode... but once i get into that mode... i can't get out. Keyboard and mouse are both USB... if i press the power button on the case, it comes alive... but nothing shows on the screen (the monitor LED is orange). I'm at a loss... any suggestions??

I would say it's a hardware/driver issue with one of your devices. Maybe not fully supporting standby mode. If it will standby after a clean install but not after installing programs, (for instance...I've noticed the wireless config utility from linksys cause goofy probs with standby), then it's a program that's running and isn't going into standby correctly.

Lol. Glad I could be of no help at all. :)

You don't mention which OS. I think there was just a recent XP update for failure to return from standby with certain USB devices.

Opps, yeah... newbie mistake. I have XP Pro... um... as for linksys i have a router by them...
hm... I do have a LOT running in the background.... some i know what they are... others i don't.
My system if i recall correctly is new enough to support the power features (true its just a P3 866, but it should be ok... right?)
If someone could tell me what is absolutely needed to run in the background (from the list when you press CTRL+ALT+Del) then i could to some program troubleshooting.
Thanks
