standby in WIN ME...????

You're kidding aren't you?! Standby has been around for a long time even if compatible computers weren't guaranteed.
Standby saves electricity but that isn't the biggest benefit to me. The biggest benefit is that my computer runs quieter until I want it again, whereupon touching the keys or mouse wakes it up in 3 seconds in its previous state.
Hibernate is not bad too if you want to go out or take a nap. It saves what's in RAM to disk and provides say a 10 second boot.
