Standby freeze-ups!

I've had this problem a few times now. I built a computer over the summer and it works fine for the 95% of the time. But sometimes when it shuts down or goes on standby, it just freezes up. The monitor shuts down but the computer just keeps running. The power and reset button are completely useless and I'm forced to actually turn off the PSU! This is defintely not the greatest thing to do. Any ideas on why it does this?

Really hard to say without more info. My guess would be the PSU or motherboard. But no telling really. Also if you hold your computers power button down for 4 seconds or so it should shut off.
