Standard Tweaks to a New Lappy

DigDug

Having recently bought a 2ghz Duo-Core laptop (Dell Inspiron E1705) with 2gb ram and Nvidia GeForce Go 7800, I wanted to go about making sure that its running optimally.

Are there any standard tweaks/proggies that you all use, that I should be using?

Thanks so much.

go to the properties of "my computer" (system properties) and then click the advanced tab, error reporting button and disabled it

but leave the one check box checked

also under the same properties box click advanced>settings button (should be for performance, the top one) the only check boxes i have are
-show window contents while dragging
-use common taks in folders
-use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop

and install spybot and go into advanced mode

click system start up and disable anything thats not needed

set System Restore to 0%, but don't turn it off,

why leave it on if there is no room to store the files

It doesn't give you NO room to store the files, just enough to store the most important stuff...like your last restore point, pretty much IIRC.

😉 j/k.

Why go from Windows... to MacOSX... then back to Windows? 😉

Umm... uninstall everything you don't need. Then download SiSoft Sandra and it will give you a good idea of what you can do. (I think that's the program anyhow...) Not sure how well it does on a lappy.

Also, I think they got a ton of popups now, but PCPitstop used to be one of my favorite sites. Frequently pimped by the former TechTV show "the Screensavers"

No, seriously, first thing: format hard drive, install windows clean. Drivers. Updates. Spybot/Adaware, virusscan, diskeeper, then your communication and office programs and you should have a good start. Less is more!

NO! Not on a laptop. It often makes a lot of the extra buttons not work correctly.
