I bought a Sony WebTV (INT-W100) from a local thrift store (not for myself). It's pretty old, so I'll need to test it to make sure that the browser works for sites such as eBay, but my Cable ISP no longer offers a complimentary dial-up account. Perhaps the unit can be updated once online?
I've searched and searched for a standard DUN ISP that offers a free trial. Even MSN and Earthlink do not have a free trial. What happened to all those offers? Now it's something like "buy 5 months and get two free", meaning that you must pay for several months and it's not a "trial" membership at all. PeoplePC apparently requires proprietary bloat/spy-ware. I snooped a true DUN UN/PW using DialGuard, but the PW is 34 characters long the WebTV unit accepts only 33 chars!
Perhaps one of you has a dial-up server that I can dial-in to? (Atlanta, GA area)
A guy at work has been using my eBay account for months, and he does not have a computer at home. I have been grateful for the ~100+ feedback that he has generated, but I have been expecting this problem for some time. He needed me to sell an item for him: 50 collectible toy cars in a case. The auction closed for $130. After I shipped the items for him, the US Postal Service lost it. My PayPal account has been frozen and it looks like I'll lose $130 and possibly get negative feedback.
If this unit works for sites like eBay, perhaps he'll finally get his own account!
