Standalone DVD Burner Drive

A buddy of mine has a VHS -> DVD burner unit.

Panasonic dmr-e80hp-s

and the drive is: Maxtor Diamondmax 16, 80gb ata/133 hdd


Problem is the unit broke crashed and he asked me how to recover the data on it...

He sent it back to the manafacturer and they said it was beyond repair and gave him a replacement.

Not an exact replacement, but a different model and it doesn't retrieve the data.

Any suggestions, or ideas?

Well if you still have it then Take out the hard drive and plug it into a Computer 🙂 ..... as a slave and try that out .. if windows comes up with a message drive is damaged or it fails to boot or you encounter other problems try another computer and then give up because the disk is probably gone 2 Hard drive heaven.
