Stand pat with 754 or go for Opteron goodness?

I have been flailing with the question of upgrading motherboard ram and CPU. I currently have a 3400 (754) running at 2.66 gig in a DFI4 mobo. I am running with a 7800GT that does 480/1.09 with my VF700Cu. Is it worth moving to a Opteron or Dual core? Seems like a lot of money for a possibility of a little performance.

Thanks

The only reason I could see upgrading would be to get in on DDR SDRAM before prices go up. Availability on DDR will drop off after socket AM2 is released. However, if you already have some DDR you like, you should be able to upgrade to socket 939 whenever you like without getting hit by high DDR prices. I suspect that DDR prices will be the only major s939 component that will see a price increase after AM2 is released.
