Stand By vs Suspend?

In the BIOS setup of mobo, there is selection of Stand by or Suspend for APM.

What is the difference?

My pc running w2k constantly went into deep sleep after the monitor is off. I had set the Bios to monitor the keyboard/mouse/parallel port and sometime there is no respond when I hit the keyboard or click on the mouse.

I have try both enable and disable the APM and w2k's APM continue to product same problem.

Am I missing something?
