Stand-alone Portable DivX players?

Ok recently I saw a new Gadget from Archos, the Jukebox Multi Media... it's a 10gb external HDD with MP3 playback, Divx Playback... what? Yes Divx Playback! But the con about it is that it only play CIF files (352x288 px)... no normal DVDrip! First you'll have to convert it....

Now i was wondering, would there be a portable DivX player complete with a bigger screen (like 8 or 9 inches)? That would ne nice for in the train! Yes yes i know buy a Laptop!

That page says mpeg4 which is not divx. I could be wrong, but divx itself is not a legal codec and a company shipping products with it could be sued for infringement on the copyright holdes on the mpeg4 codec. From what I have heard there will never be a product sold in the US that will play divx files due to this copyright infringement.

Again, I could be completely wrong, this is just what I have heard...

What are the "technical" differences between MPEG4 and DIVX.....which has a better performence v size ratio?

I think it would be a great thing to have a DVD player that not only supports the usual MP3 playback but all MPEG formats as well as Quicktime, AVI & DIVX.....damn those infringement laws!

the original divx 3.11 was based off the mpeg4 format. It was technically illegal. Now the Divx5.0 codec is not illegal. Any company that wanted to include this ability would just have to pay royalities to the company that made it.

I don't know of any company that plans on releasing a standalone divx player.

I sure hope the new DiVX codec is legal, Warcraft 3 uses it for their Cinematics. The logo is also plastered all over the manual.

Toms Hardware has a pretty good review on this. I really like the optional modulals that add USB 2.0, firewire, CF, SM, or turn it into a digital cameral/ digital video cam.
