Well, this isn't exactly computer hardware, but I thought I would give it a shot here. My wife and I are considering getting her parents a stand alone CD burner for their stereo system so that they can record some of their really old LP's to CD.(they have a computer, but getting them set up and running for this would be difficult and problematic at best)

The question is, does anyone have an idea of where to get these for a reasonable price? Pretty much everywhere I've looked wants $250-$300 minimum for them. Which I think is pretty...ummm...interesting considering that identical stand alone DVD burners can be had for close to $100.

So any ideas? Thanks for the help!

The sad fact of the matter is that you aren't going to find them much cheaper than that. Most of them are high end pieces of equipment and use expensive DACs and have digital and analog inputs, as well as multiple disc changers. They were never really meant for the mass market, as CD burners sort of superceeded them in that sense.

Where are you finding these stand alone DVD recorders for $100?

Well, I've double checked and I was a little off on the DVD burners. Those appear to be running about $150.(Best Buy, Newegg, pretty easy to find) It was just surprising to me that they seem to be rather easy to find in the 150-200 range while CD burners are much more expensive.(usually double that from what I can see) Guess there really isn't anywhere else to look. Oh well. Looks like we are going with the opera tickets and then see about getting them a little more computer savvy to get it done.

Thanks for the info though.
