@ibex, you are absolutely right about different things being good for different people and also it being well worth it to stick w/ something long enough to get past the initial learning curve. At the same time, I feel that STALKER is great and people should give it a decent try of probably 30min-1 hour. Frankly I'm sick of people saying it "sux" because they only tried it for 5 min.

BTW, I wish I knew some Russian. It's rather sad that they didn't translate any of those atmospheric bits for us non-Russian speakers.

I tried it for a few minutes early on and thought it was crap. Then when Gogamer had if for $9 i had to buy it and give it another shot. I really don't have much time to play but I've spent enough time to make some progress that now I am totally into it and want to play it through.

I am at BAR now, have some ok weapons and think the game is ok thus far but really... is there no other way to travel between the towns? Holy shit, I spend 5 minutes literally running between them to get paid off for jobs I have completed. What a waste of time.

Please tell me there is a way to quick travel later in the game.

I know this sounds a little off but, I always thought quick travel in games was too gratifying. There is just something about the ability to teleport at will all the time. I think a STALKER didn't "quick travel" into the zone, then quick travel to the BAR. Hell, they might as well "quick travel" into the Reactor itself lol!

Just my opinion though :)

True. A god compromise though might be the use of vehicles. You see quite a few lying around including trucks and APCs.

who?

As to Stalker, I didn't like it until about 6 hours in, and then I started warming to it. Later on I had an all night session and got totally immersed. Yeah, the running was annoying but like they say above, lighten your pack and you can sprint the whole way and find stuff to do on the way.

Very much looking forward to CS.

I found some endurance artifacts in the tunnel with the electro-thingies. Can sprint all the time unless I carry more than I should. Bought me a Merc Suit which makes fighting alot easier :) I am pretty much done with the first area (I think :p). However, I got this problem with performance: the game is running 90FPS and then suddenly it drops to 5 for a few seconds, the low performance persists in game menu (WTF?) and doesn't seem to be related to anything that's on screen (as it happened when there was literally nothing on the screen, a gun fight, a wind breeze, raining, anomalies, in game menu). I really don't know what's happening. Luckily it happens once every 10 mins or so, so it's not *that* bad. Obviously I wish it wouldn't happen at all :)

Garbage here I come! :p

Just like Oblivion and Morrowind.
People complained about running from town A to town B, mostly because they never made it to town B.
Why?
Because theres like 43 different things to do between town A and town B.

Also, for STALKER I got that irritating feeling too.
Instead of pissing about it I just used a trainer to give me infinite Stamina. I can sprint like a madman all day.
I know its cheap but FUCK THEM!
I like games that are fun. If only one little thing is spoiling my fun I'm not gonna whine about it all day. I'll hack it or mod it or cheat it.

Same thing with Neverwinter Nights 2.
Its sort of a pain when you've been adventuring for a while, and all of a sudden you want to level everyone up and redistribute their equipment and select their spells.
Rather than putz around for 45 minutes trying to get everybody sorted out, I just use the cheat that lets me put everyone in my party at once.
I move around all the equipment in one fell swoop, and then go back to a normal party.

Actually, if you jump around the building near where you start, you can find a merc suit in one of the attics. Yes, it's quite nice early on though frankly good armors are more often found than bought.

Ha, I kept everyone in my party at all times (at least the second time through). Keeping only a few members in your party at once while the rest just hang out at the bar just didn't make sense to me, considering that we were trying to save the world. Plus I didn't want to have to worry about having the proper party members at the right times when going out to do a mission.

To each their own. I hate games some people love too. But to say Batman Forever was better than Dark Knight... wow.

That was ridiculous, but an honest mistake.

Still, to this day it is a beautiful change in pace, one that I have not felt in a long time in a game. The atmosphere, mood, lighting, the world were all completely unique. I still don't think it was long enough or there was enough content in it, but overall it was easily the best game to date and a welcome change. I still cannot wait for Clear Sky.

Seriously........magic elves.

I have to Say, after FEAR, Stalker is the second game that has actually made me a bit scared

At the beginning of the game, when you are exploring the underground laboratory, and are walking down the hallway to the exit. Then suddenly SHRIEK. I turned around saw a shadow walking around the corer, and pull me into him, and throw me back for an instant kill. I actually yelled out loud, swore several times, and on restart, ran like hell.

And then hearing another shriek, and seeing a blur rush at me and start slashing at me. Wasted an entire clip on that bloodsucker.
