STALKER SOC problem

I'll start off by saying this problem may be my fault...or not. I played SOC several years ago(from DVD) and decided to re-play. Had no problems the first play thru. This time I downloaded the Complete patch over the same game and started a new game. I played a couple of hours, but now the computer just turns off after about 5 minutes into the game. No error messages, just shuts down. 😵 Not the computer, as other games are fine. I am not far into the game, so should I uninstall the game and start over? Or is there something else causing this. Some other players had this same problem with SOC complete.

Any ideas? Or just play vanilla.

ugh ... sounds ugly.

I'd make a fresh install and reapply patch. I have happily completed the game with the patch and had no issues like yours. I was on XP 32.

Played Clear Sky complete on same computer with no problems.

I would try monitoring system RAM and vRam usage while playing the game to see if you are hitting a limit causing a crash. If everything checks out there try using an earlier saved game. If that does not work try a fresh install. That engine is buggy as all getout.

Since you've already played it through vanilla, I don't think you're going to get much out of Complete.

I would recommend Mod Pack 2013 for your next play-through. It is a compilation of several mods integrated into one pack. It brings back a lot of the original mutants that were cut from the game as well, and also adds CoP-style Zone emissions.

I'm not really a huge fan of the shaders (too contrasty and dark for my tastes), but overall I think it's my favorite "2nd playthrough" mod I've played so far, which includes a ton of them.


One note -- when I install this mod (which just equates to copying and pasting gamedata folders over the old one), the game will not launch. I just go into Steam at this point and verify the game cache. It downloads 2 little files and then the game is good to go.
