I am planning on upgrading my video card, and hate playing games in anything less than their full glory (full quality everything). For those of you who have Stalker up and running, I was wondering if you could please post your settings and Hardware configuration, and let us know what frame rates you get? I am running a 17inch crt w/ my sig hardware, and I dont know if it will let me play at good looking settings, while getting over 40fps. Thanks.

Should have the game in a couple of days - am a bit wary about my 7800gt, but Im guessing itll run 40fps+ if I opt not to use AA and keep to static lighting - will be running it at 1680x1050 - I just hope I dont get a repeat of oblivion crawling along at 20fps with barely any details maxed out

i usually run 1280x960 with at least 2xaa, but 1024x768 with 2x aa is acceptable as well...
I think at such low resolutions, if I crank up my memory and cpu overclock, I will see significant fps improvment?

All sliders to the right (except grass density, this about half way) with full dynamic lighting.

1920x1080
Rig in Sig.
My 7950GX2 is OC to 620/1600

I only see high 20's in some forrest areas.
Other than that I'm 30+ with highs in the 50+ indoors.

Although I haven't actually bothered reading any FPS on it, i'm sitting on my older 6800GT (420/1.15, see sig) and barely getting along with playable framerates at 1024 at what i'd consider to be "mid-low" settings. (Somewhere between middle and low)

The first thing that surprised me was the fact that i had do go all the way down to 1024x768, haven't done that for a while.
In wide open areas with no anomalies, i'm probably at a good 30-50fps, but if i get near anything graphically demanding, even structures, my framerate drops into 20 or below. This very well might be the first game that i run at low settings, no AA, and 1024x768 unless i can find something that'll help me get playable framerates. Kind of a pain, even SupCom at 2560x1024 runs better than this...

I'm running it at maximum setting at 1680x1050 with no noticeable slowdown while playing. I haven't measured FPS because I usually only do it when it starts to slow down. Anyway, running it on a X1900XTX

It occurred to me that i haven't updated my videocard drivers in quite a while. (Dual monitor setup has made it more of a pain than it previously was), so upon installing the newest Xtreme-G drivers, the framerate increased to something very playable; at much higher settings. I'm now closer to "mid-high", with even some AA, and maintaining probably around 40ish +most areas, and 20ish in the very dense buildings. Good enough for this game.

tell me more about these xtreme-g drivers - running at 1440x900 full AF no AA, medium quality settings, static lighting - just about playable on my 7800gt but it looks like it was drawn by a small child

www.tweaksrus.com , the X-G drivers are simply a "tweaked" set of the official Nvidia drivers, and i've been using them for years. Easier to install, come in smaller download sizes and from my experience, usually have a slightly better framerate. Enough that it's worth it to go to the tweakrus website to download them.

I just downloaded the X-G 94.20 drivers, which i believe are behind the Nvidia official ones, but the forum over there was saying crazy things like 20+ FPS increases all around; and while I didn't get that nice of an improvement, i got close. I'm thinking at least a 10+ FPS increase all around; even on the most demanding games.

They work differently on different systems, but it made STALKER playable for me; so give them a try.
Direct link to the drivers: http://www.tweaksrus.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=730&Itemid=1
(Typical driver installing instructions follow, uninstall old ones, reboot, install new ones, reboot.. etc.) A warning to people trying these new X-G drivers: They apparently don't work with 8XXX cards yet.

I am also curious. I have a 7900GTX and I wanna know if this is the kind of game where I can go buck wild and still get awesome frame rates or will I have to tone it down just to get it playable.

P.S.
I LOVE the xTreme drivers.

This game almost gave me an itch to upgrade to a 8800GTS 640.

But right now im running the game on static lighting, max everything, 1280x1024, no aa. Maybe ill try full dynamic lighting later.

I think with max textures it bumps the AF up like D3 and Quake 3.

AA has a huge impact on performance.

Im running a X2 @ 2.4GHz, 2 Gigs DDR-2 @ 4-4-4-10 1T, and a 7800GT.

Very interesting. I'm running with a BFG 6800OC and I might give those drivers a shot. Should I boot into safemode and run drivercleaner before installing the XtremeG drivers?

Turn dynamic lights off and the play experience is better, FPS is better and visuals is not much different...

Or wait for new drivers or a new patch , kinda like FEAR problems...

AMD 64X2 3800, 2 GB RAM and two 7900GT KO cards.

1280x1024 w/ all slider up and everything on except for video sync.

This is the first game that I've needed the SLI activated since I built the PC last year.

I rarely personally bother with all out driver cleaners; but that's mainly because my setup requires so many custom specifications to the screens that it would simply take too long. Give it a try; i've never had a problem with the XG drivers; been using them for years.

i run STALKER with rig in sig at 14x9 with Max full dynamic lighting, everything high and on - ALL the sliders *maxed*

*except*

--AA [1/3 of the way ... i guess 2x or 4x - AF 'maxed']
--Grass density [10% ... way down]
--Lighting Distance [60% ... over 1/2]
--No Shadows on Grass [Sun Shadows are 'ON' - V-synch 'off']

no instablilty, slowdowns, glitches, sound issues ... the only time i had a problem was when my CPU got into the mid-60sC [the room was way hot and i moved the case for better ventillation ... no problems even after 3-5 hours of continuous play]

not running FRAPS ... but everything is "fluid"

I'm curious, does AA actually seem to have an affect on your system? Because it all looks the same on mine, AA on or off...

a little :p

there aren't many 'jaggies' to begin with ... the AA in game adds a "slight blurr" ... i kinda like it for the little performance hit ... so i left it on

and i am done with it

it tied with Riddick:EfBB as my favorite FPS - of all time

i got one 'fake' ending and both "true" ones

even has a decent Sci-Fi story

Are you using dynamic or static lighting? Because I heard whether or not "AA" is used is dependent on that.

EDIT: Nvm, I saw in your previous post that its dynamic.

Anyways, I'm liking it too. Definitely more atmospheric and scarier at times than FEAR and Doom 3. :D

I'm using Vista. I play at 1680x1050 with a 7900GS. I'm using dynamic lighting with medium textures and medium grass density and light distance. I get a very solid 30 FPS in the early morning outdoors areas (orange sun with long shadows).
