Stalker crash

When I set my settings to max, Stalker will crash at every point in the game... (while walking around... or selecting different options in the main menu)...

But when I set the texture detail to 1 tick before the max, the crash to desktop stops... strange.



I have an 8800GT btw.


Anyone have ideas?
 

This is a common problem with Vista. It's a memory management bug between STALKER and Vista. There's a lot of talk about it in the forums.

There are two workarounds, and you already found the easy one - drop your texture settings to one tick below max.

The other is complicated and involves a few semi-hacks. You can read about it over in the official STALKER forums if you're curious.

Generally speaking, STALKER and Vista don't get along very well. Supposedly the development team is working on this stuff in patches.
