Stalker COP frequent hanging

I have searched up and down for a solution for this so I was wondering if anyone here had any ideas. Started playing cop after I got my new video card and while it plays with fairly good fps it hangs when playing for a bit then will come back. More frustrating though is how long it hangs when going to the main menu or saving. Haven't seen any fixes for this problem but it seems to be something specific to windows 7. Everything is up to date. Catalyst 11.3, steam updates the game so that is patched. I have tried turning off anti virus and shutting off non essential processes. Its not a game breaker. But frustrating considering the plays smoothly otherwise.

I was never able to finish that game due to hang-ups near the end. The game comes with its own real anomalies lol.

Yeah, I've always been a big fan despite the obvious shortcomings of the games. So I really would like to play through the game. It isn't a hang like the computer is bogging down it just stops for no apparent reason then keeps going like normal. Funny thing too is my video card fan (i think), slows down during the hangs then spins back up when the game comes back. Weird.

The game crashes on me about once a day, have to backup to last save (sometimes the save before last) after killing it from the task manager. Using the latest official patch plus the latest version of Call of Pripyat Complete.

People should really just license an engine from id or the Unreal Engine and just focus on making a good game.

I played the game from start to finish and I only experienced a single crash to the desktop. I’d suggest running your system at stock speeds as the first step.

My bet goes on the mod being, well, incomplete 😀

I still haven't finished CoP, but I played it a good 30+ hours so far, one session or two must have been around 6+ hours, I never experienced a single crash, but I'm not using a single modification for it yet, still running it completely under vanilla settings, but my system runs at stock speeds on everything, all drivers are up-to-date (Vista itself freshly installed since only a week), no third party codecs installed yet, I think that all of that certainly helps for the game's stability.

As suggested by BFG10K, you should at least try running the game while your system runs at stock speeds on everything (CPU, Memory, GPU), see if that helps (and try under those settings for more than just a few minutes, try it like that for a day or two, including other games too). If your problems persist then it might have to do with something else such as in-game settings, or drivers, or drivers settings in the ATi/AMD control panel, or codecs conflicting (I'd think audio-related for instance), etc.
