I need something now a bit more mindless than my RPGs, so I thought I should give this game a try. I really liked STALKER SHOC with Oblivion Lost, really good FPShooter. I assume that Clear Sky has a significant modding community as well.

1. Any unofficial patches that I should be aware of for pure bug fixing purposes?

2. Any graphical overhauls that you guys really liked?

3. (most importantly) Any major overhauls (like Oblivion Lost) to improve the story, character interaction, dialog, etc?

Thanks

you can go to Stalkerfiles.com and check the mods, I played it last year and I was hooked, last mission is tough (killed stelok). I used a mod to improve the aim and polish the real game.

We've had a couple threads on this fairly recently IIRC. But I will tell you this one is fantastic: http://stalker.filefront.com/file/Basix_GFXmCS;95188 A bunch of good ones on there for your perusal too. I just went with this one and was not disappointed at all.

Description:
This new version of the Basix mod brings the new all.spawn-based gameplay that puts back in the game the SHOC cut-out monsters: mutant cat, the classic zombie, the fracture, and the burer. Plus the usual NPC Weapons Rebalancing Mod, Environmental GFX Mod, Weapons Expansion Mod, and other features.

It also has the Float 32 mod built into it. It is really an enhanced game play experience. And if you use the vehicles, you can get from here to there quicker.

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up going for the Atmosfear, bugfixmod and ballistics mod. The ironsights mod for the pistols appears to be broken with the latest version and I am starting to think ballistics is as well as I am not seeing much of a difference.

This one is not as creepy as good as the last one, it certainly is not as horror oriented :(

I shelved it after a few days of playing. I loved SoC and I don't know why I just couldn't get into CS. Hopefully when I have more time I'll go back and give it another shot .. perhaps with some of these suggested mods!

More info would be nice...I just beat Call of Pripyat (the first STALKER game I got into) and Ive started playing Clear Sky with the same questions as the OP...my rig has no issues maxing the game out so I want to bring it further...that and the guns are WAY underpowered as they were in Call of Pripyat...how can 5 shotgun blasts not kill a basic bandit, but 2 knife hits does? Makes NO sense...

Whats the best gun mod without making each gun as powerful as a point blank range shotgun shell to the face? Whats the best mod that can really in rich the graphics? What about cheat mods like unlimited ammo/stamina (anything other than a trainer?) etc...

Well, this Spartan 11:11 seems to be a sizable overhaul that includes several mods. It really helps the atmosphere of the game, but it seems to be much more difficult.

I used just the weight mod in Clear Sky.

Schadenfroh,CoP(Stalker:Call of Pripyat) is a far better game in enjoyment, stabilty, less bugs etc...I used both the weight mod and sell any condition mod for CoP.

I got my mods from Stalker Filefront which has already been posted by a fellow member.

This looks good for game play for sure! Thanks! Now...whats the best graphics mod?

I think that Spartan 11:11 improves the graphics, maybe it is just the lighting, but it looks better to me. But, I am getting owned since I am not used to the weapons.

Thanks mem for the hope:)

No problem! The mod gave me new appreciation for an otherwise flawed game. The final release could be finished in a matter of days if the test is successful. The built in cheat menu is pretty nice to have just for a sandbox play-through.

Cool, I was thinking about firing it up. If it is so close to release, I doubt that I would have to restart the game when the final version comes out (ie not breaking the saved games).

Finished it
It was not as good as the first one. Does joining a faction make it more fun? IE, do you get unique interesting quests? I tried to play all sides during my play-through.

I assume that all of Clear-Sky was wiped out during the emission that caused Strelok to lose his memory? Also, were all of the mercenaries working for CLEAR SKY? I assume that Scar was not a member of the Mercenary faction, despite it saying it was a faction... as the mercs in The Dark Valley were hostile and the mercs near the warehouses were none-to-friendly.

Hopefully, the third one is better.

Schadenfroh,

You made a mistake if you didnt join factions. It's pretty much the main thing that Clear Sky has going for it! You get unique item rewards, and if I remember correctly I think there might have been some quests as well. Also, I was able to either avoid or attract certain confrontation due to my faction alligment. Either way, I really dont understand why you completely skipped on the faction elements.

The 3rd game in the series, Call of Pripyat is NOT better than Clear Sky. It's just DIFFERENT. I will not tell you how it's different, I just want you to play it. If you ask me, I think it's very much worth your time to play through at least once. The only thing is, you may want to wait till it costs something like $10-20 as it's really not worth more than that.

Ibex333 called it right, CoP isn't better by any means. It looks worse, but it's different. I paid 40 bucks for it via mail order and then steam halved the price. That was annoying.

Well crap, maybe I will install Clear Sky Complete mod and give it another play-through and join Duty. I like the Freedom folks better, but I agree with Duty's goals. From a role-playing aspect, it would make sense not to join a faction since one is technically a member of clear sky, right? Or is Clear Sky so secret that its members infiltrate other factions? I guess the least interference would be joining the STALKER group in the Cordon.

The complete mod for Clear Sky is one of the best mods that I have ever came across.

I didn't see any benefits from joining anyone except free stalkers, duty and freedom. IMHO, Freedom rewards are best, and their base of operations is the funnies place in the game. But then again, I played in Russian so most of the humor may have been lost in translation.
