This. Those Stalker comparisons prove that 5870 is the only card to get.

That's driven me nuts for years. Especially in games with aging graphics engines, nothing shows the age worse than polygonal wheels and whatnot.

World of Warcraft is one of my favorite examples. Six-sided wheels. :D

I'm more impressed by Dirt 2, but Stalker had me a little dissapointed. The difference betwee DX10 and DX11 there were so slim that you'd have to stop playing the game and stand still to pick out the subtle changes.

I agree 100% with this. Dirt 2 looks amazing, Stalker is negligible IMO.

Even if Stalker: CoP only had a DX9 renderer I'd still be drooling with anticipation. I absolutely loved the first two games, and even under DX9 they still look amazing.

I'm sorry.. but I just cant see much difference between DX10 and 11 screenshots! It's minimal at best. Really, I am not trying to make myself feel better because I cant afford one of those beastly ATI cards. I simply don't see any reason to get one... Like the previous poster said, I'd be happy to play STALKER: CoP in DX9 mode, and I'd get increased frame rate too!

EDIT:
Ahh.. Yess.. I finally noticed it... The gas mask now looks rounded on the stalker.. While it's indeed VERY nice, it remains to be seen how many games will take advantage of this new tech, and just how much more advantages there are from using DX11 vs. the disadvantages such as the possible drop in framerate...

I'm sure tons of games will support it eventually because it's part of the Direct X 11 standard.

But that's the point. Often it is those small little extras that do the most to creating immersion.

I just couldn't get into Stalker. Bought it on Steam - the game ran like crap on my HD4870 maxed. I remember being severely disappointed by this fact - it didn't look THAT great either. I did play it for a few days, I think I even got quite far. But then I didn't play it for a week or so and just couldn't see myself coming back to it - so the game just wasn't all that great for me. Obviously I steered clear from Clear Sky based on that :) The tessellation looks impressive indeed - but the graphics in general don't.

And DiRT - I hate the steering. Tried it with an Xbox360 pad on the PC demo and with my wheel on my Xbox - the steering felt so wrong, especially with the wheel. I did try the demo for part 2 on my Xbox - same steering. No thanks. Got my racing itch covered with Shift and Forza 3 demo :) But the DiRT2 screens do look amazing! Hell, the Xbox version looks wicked :) And this looks incredible!

Exactly. This game could be in DX8 for all I care and I'm still getting it :D. Anyway, it'll be interesting to see what else they do with the graphics. Besides, usually whatever GSC misses, the modding community will eventually add :).

sorry but a lot of the atmosphere is gone when you play in DX8. IMO it doesnt even come close to feeling like the same game once you have played in DX9.

This stupid Dirt 2 game is going to make me upgrade to a dx 11 card. Argh, I hate it!

Stupid Dirt 2 game is going to make me buy 2 extra monitors :( Hopefully they have Crossfire working in conjunction with eyefinity though!

Ehh, smoking too much...? Even Clear Sky is neck-to-neck with DiRT2.
