Stagnation of the Internet!

MSNBC had an article earlier today stating that there are a lot of people who have "unplugged" from the net and even more who won't even bother to go online. The powerful growth of the internet that was once seen as unstoppable has ground to a halt in its tracks apparently. I'm thinking this is partially due to a number of reasons ranging from the overwelming amounts of spam, banner ads, and other marketing garbage that pervade the internet, it also seems that since the internet bubble busted, the fad of the internet has started to fade away again. What is your take on the recent stalling out and stagnating of the internet?

EDIT: Ok, found the link. MSNBC article on stagnation of the internet.

I say few, if any of the above reasons. I think the novelty has warn off. Add a guess that saturation has occured... The same thing with the hardware boom. All those who want to be online, are already online. Those who aren't, don't want to be.

Hopefully, the internet wont go the same way cable or broadcast TV has gone, and narrow itself down to just a few content providers.

I'd like to add that I do more shopping than ever before on the web. 🙂

Yeah, I believe that market has become saturated too. Now we can just come out with faster ways to connect and surf and unique interfaces.

there aren't many exciting things to do on the internet. or at least i ran out of ideas. but it's good for getting news, email, fantasy sports, etc

I would say that the growth is just slower, not dying. Not a peak either, just a slower less steep section. Nothing to worry about.

Yeah, I agree. Plus websites are just getting super lame these days. Initially they sucked for lack of content, now they suck cause they've got too much garbage on them. I think lack of interest is also partially due to information overload and overkill by site designers. People want to be able to just go to the site, find what they need, and it should be ultra easy. If it's not they get discouraged and they leave.

For the common user, it's stagnating, but the information available is still very valuable.

For businesses, it is a great money maker. Web applications are gold. And not only for retailing... they're vital to many business processes (yes, via INTERnet) as well.
