Stackpages in Win98SE?

I am getting an error box on boot up saying to increase MinSP (Stack Pages) in SYSYEM.INI and that 6 stack pages are allocated. Searching finds no entry with this name, nor does scanning SYSTEM.INI. There is no entry by this name in the registry either. In the old days we used to set stacks=9,256 I recall, but I do not know how to respond to the error box. It does not appear on every boot up by the way.
Any ideas any one?

Note added later:
I found several references on net to a similar error response. One is

SPs

I will try adding the suggested entry in SYSTEM.INI. On a rather simple and new install of Windows 98 I don't understand why this should be occuring, especially during bootup.

I've had the same problem on several newbuilds, and my own existing system. Someone here at the board recommended going here for information. Looks like the same basic info you've gotten.

I don't know why the situation existed, only that it fixed it. Stack pages are over my head.

The tech note you found has the exact error box I am getting (occasionally), but the fix is the same as I found for the similar error box that comes up if the machine has already booted -- as opposed to the one that comes up in the boot sequence. Wonder why it occurs in new build machines with not much installed in them yet?

I have no idea. Like I said it's over my head.

I could see it coming up in an existing system with the installation of new software or different hardware. (I'm really nor sure what triggers it).

On a new build, all I can figure, is that some specific hardware must trigger it. Something that is not built into that particular version of the operating system.

I'm curious to know, but as I said, it's somewhat over my level of knowledge.

What hardware is on the offending machines? It says the problem relates to device drivers, I suspect a "bad" driver. Most likely, it's a poor driver on the win CD itself, since it's seen on a fresh install. Personally, I would update all my device drivers rather than adding a "stack pages" line in the sys.ini. Do that is more a patch than a real fix.

I've built hundreds of systems and have never encountered this error under 9x/ME. Reminds me of the old days, LOL. :D
