Stack Animation Question

This is a really petty question, but is there any way to make the "fan" animation available with a folder when your dock is set up on the side of your screen? It is an option when your dock is on the bottom, but unfortunately when you set it to the side it disappears and you're left with only "View content as: Grid, List, or Automatic". I know there are a few command line things that let you tweak your dock a bit, but does anyone know if there is a way to make the fan option available on a vertical dock?
