Hello - Im looking for at fairly cheap but most important stable motherboard/cpu replacement for my old Asus p5b-v ATX and Core 2 Duo CPU. The MB is used as a mediaserver in my home, and I am looking for at least 7 SATA3 connectors. I have 1 SSD and 6 WD RED drives and although it works very well and has worked well since 2007 I would like to upgrade it.
It is running Win 10 and mainly accessed by remote desktop.
So im looking for:
Plenty of sata3 connectors (Pref 7 sata 3 and perhaps extra sata2 for blu-ray/DVD)
Good ethernetchipset (pref. Intel)
Low temperature - and lasting at least 10 years, like the one i'm replaceing
Integrated graphic
CPU: Intel i3 or i5 (need not be latest generation, just better than mu Core 2 Duo (c: )
Ram: 8 GB
Size: ATX
It is not for gaming or anything, just a server for media (movies, music) in my private home, with perhaps 3 concurrent connections (Kids and my self).
Budget: MB+CPU about $300
Any thoughts? Best regards Jakob

My requirements were roughly similar 5 years ago when I was forced to upgrade abruptly.

One thing I regretted was not getting a motherboard with either IPMI or Intel AMT for true remote management. Still kicking myself (but too lazy to open my wallet!).

So, accordingly, you might look for a board with such for 'server' use. The Supermicro X11SAE probably fits the bill, or X10SAE if you don't mind going a generation back. The boards are made for Xeons, but you can run i-Series CPU's on them just fine (basically you lose the ECC functionality).

I had the same plan with my server, an old Core2Duo. I got a board and some ram for a friend, but I'm selling it because I couldn't find a CPU I wanted to pay for to go in it. However today, after buying a Xeon E5 and x79 board for it, I find these:

Either of them would work perfect with that board /facepalm

It's an Intel P67 LGA1155 board.
