Stability problems with TNT2

Hello all,
I've been having trouble with general system stability, due (afaik) to TNT2 video card drivers (Detonator 3, iirc). The problems started after I replaced my S3 Trio3d (ouch) card with a TNT2 video card (not the best, but very inexpensive). After this, Windows 98 seemed to be very unstable (at least 4 BSODs per day, and other general application problems), while Linux will run fine for several days (but then needs rebooting, due probably to a memory leak in KDE 2.1). Since the Windows 98 became quite unusable, I mkreiserfs'd my windows partition, but I'm wondering about installing Windows again (I need it for scanning and gaming). So, my general question is, what is the system stability of those who have TNT2 video cards with Windows 98 and 2000? Will it be worth the effort to reinstall it, or should I just give up and get a Linux-compatible scanner?
Thanks,
Josh
FWIW, system specs are as follows:
AMD K6-2 400 mhz
64 mb ram
4.3 gb hard disk
Creative Labs CD-ROM
Iomega Zip drive
Sound Blaster Live Value
Internal, PCI Lucent modem
And, of course, TNT2 Vanta LT (it has 8 mb of ram)

I had a TNT2 until I upgraded to a radeon. the system was (and is) rock solid in 98 and 2k. I used the detonator2 drivers, you could also try the detonator1 drivers

what mobo? some older mobos couldn't handle the power requirements of a tnt2 on the agp slot. reinstall your via drivers also

I've got a Gigabyte GA-5AA motherboard. It seems, however, that the problems of stability occur only in Windows, so I don't think it would be a hardware problem, but I really don't know.

Thank you all for your prompt answers. So does that mean that it will never run correctly, no matter what version of Windows I use? I suppose now is the time to upgrade the mobo and proc so I won't have any of those problems 🙂

Josh

the gigabyte is an ALI alladin V chipset board. I would disable AGP in the bios, and set it to 1x agp. Also install the ALI agp drivers. Should fix it for ya
