Stability issues when oc'ing P4 1.8A

I recently bought a P4B-533E, a P4 1.8A and 256 MB of Corsair PC3000.

So i set the FSB to 133 and everything was cool, until i noticed some auto reboots and program failures.

I have some decent oc'ing equipment, board temps are just above 30C and full load temps are about 47C at 1,7V. Upping the voltage from 1.6 to 1.7 has done some good, Prime95 torture test runs without problems, but i am still getting those program failures.

Changing memory timings and clock did not help either.

Do you think upping the voltage even more will do any good? I had planned on not buying a specific cooler like the Alpha, because of the low temps (I come from the Athlon world ;-) ), do you think this could help?

Last but not least i should mention, that i have an Enermax 430W psu, so power should also not be an issue.

What OS? Did you try ram at 2.5/3/3/7? I don't really this it's hardware, esspecially if Prime95 runs (how long?). What are you using to report temps/voltages? Temps are cool, and I don't think upping the voltage much more would be a good idea. You could try bringing the fsb down a notch at a time to see if it helps. 🙂

WinXP. The mobo officially supports FSB133, so does the RAM (133/CL2).

Prime runs for at least 12 hours without problems. MBM5 runs for at least 12 hours without any errors.

Have you tried doing a fresh install of XP with your BIOS settings at 133fsb?

I had some similar issues when loading the OS at default then upping the bus. Something to do with XP. It did work for me. 🙂

Actually i cannot remember, wether i installed XP with FSB 100 or 133 😱 but i thought about installing it with FSB 100 and then upping the Bus to 133. You had problems with this approach?!

If you're running windows xp, there's a post on another forum about a problem similar to yours. It states that windows xp will run slower after changing the bios, or flashing it. It recommends shutting down the system after the bios flash is completed, and removing the board battery for a few minutes before re-booting. Otherwise, do a fresh install of xp with the new settings.

Yes - I originally installed XP with default settings and was getting some boot errors, etc. as I increased the fsb. I flashed to a more recent BIOS and re-installed XP with the fastest settings at 133fsb and everything has been running without any errors ever since.

no no no - the P4B533-E has a weird problem @ 133fsb.
try overclocking it higher. (135-140fsb)
disable lan sound and usb.
make sure all dip switches are in the OFF mode.

HTH 🙂

But i cannot use the 3:4 mode when i turn all DIP switches to OFF and run the FSB above 132, right?. Does async mode make the Asus unstable? I only have LAN enabled, but i would like to keep that.
