Basically the USB and the built in card reader (also USB) refuse to work

I just got it today, so it may be f'ed. but id like to make sure before sending it back.

I have ST61G4
P4 2.4A Prescott
512mb DDR400 corsair Ram
20gb crappy hd (placeholder for 160gb sata en route)
NEC 2500a DVDRW

When I plug in my maxtor usb 2.0 200gb drive to the front, the whole thing freezes. when its plugged in at startup, the PC wont startup.

when I plug in a card to the USB card reader., it shows me the root of the card, which has one folder on it. freezes up when i try to access the folder. PC also wont start with card inserted.

anyone have any ideas? I am not sure its operating at USB 2.0 as it should be, but I have updated windows with all the necessary updates and installed all the software provided with shuttle.

ANy suggestions are welcome.... thanks

I don't know if this will help you any but I have a different Shuttle XPC and I bought the Shuttle card reader for it and it has been nothing but problems. With the card reader plugged in sometimes one of my USB hubs won't work after rebooting. I have to unplug and replug it to make it work again. This can happen to either of my hubs (but it doesn't happent to both at the same time). Also the card reader disappears. I'm probably going to RMA the card reader.
