ST1000-P or HX850 for my i7 920? I own both, please advise !

I recently RMA'd a TX950 that was incompatible with Win 7 & my motherboard, and purchased a ST1000-P as a replacement (Corsair took 3 1/2 weeks to replace it). Today, my HX850 (replacement for TX950) arrived and is fully packaged.

Being that I have both PSU's now and the option to sell the HX, what should I do? Is the HX850 better than the ST1000-P? If so, is there really that big of a difference? My system seems to be running great thus far but I do want to have the best of the 2 powering my components. Please advise, thank you !

Specs:

i7 920
P6TD 02
6GB DDR3 Corsair TR3X6G1600C8D
XFX 5870 XXX Edition
X-FI Titanium Pro
Pioneer 22+ DVDr/rw
80GB x-25 SSDSA2MH080G2C1
640GB WD6401AALS
1TB WD10EADS
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Silverstone ST1000-P
HAF 932

Both are more than enough for your current setup. Even if you add a second 5870 and OC your CPU to 4.0Ghz, both PSUs will handle the full load perfectly fine. So I guess it comes down to which one you can sell for more money.

What's puzzling me is how could a PSU be incompatible with an Operating System? Plus it's a Corsair TX950, how is it not compatible with your motherboard yet the HX850 is?

From what I've seen from reviews it's apparent that Corsair is pretty conservative when it comes to rating their PSUs. I think I read somewhere Corsair could have labeled their HX750Ws as an 80Plus Bronze 950W, but decided to label them as 750W 80Plus Silver (although legally they could have labeled it Gold).

The TX950 has issues specifically with P6T / P5 / P6TD motherboards running Windows 7.

I'm not sure why and neither does Corsair (so they say...) but quite a few topics about this online , which is why I RMA'd my TX950 after spending 10 hours swapping parts/troubleshooting online ...etc... before reading about this psu problem online & swapping out the Tx950 with an Acbel 550. The TX950 also crashes Win 7 Ultimate at the startup screen with my setup; before bios update/after/and after my entire system was updated. Weird, right?

So

qazwsxokmijn, do you think I should keep the HX850/swap out the ST1000/leave my rig as is?

you could sell me the 850hx for a great price and not have to worry anymore. I am just wondering if you will have issues with another corsair psu on your setup.

I'm not sure if this problem only occurs with the TX series Corsair PSUs, but as you can see in my sig I have an HX750W with W7 Ultimate, and an Asus P6T and I've never encountered any unexplainable problems. Sure, I've had freezes, BSoDs etc, but that's during my quest to get the damn 920 chip stable at 4GHz. Now that I've found the stable settings for 4GHz, I've never had any freezes/BSoD or any other perhaps PSU-related problems.

So yeah, in short I reckon you should just keep the HX850W.

Oh, and just noticed our rigs are almost similar!

EDIT: Wait, so you currently have the Silverstone powering your rig? If yes, just sell the HX850W then. No point going through the hassle of swapping the PSUs when both are of high quality brands.
