Actually, Coke Zero has a combination of aspartame and acesulfame potassium, whatever that is.

Wrong, Coke Zero does NOT use Splenda. Read on the can. ;)

Diet Coke 'with Splenda' uses Splenda. The can says Diet Coke and has yellow in the Coke 'swoch'.

Both have zero calories and both use aspartame. Coke Zero just has a different flavor to it. I think it tastes better than Diet Coke, but I don't really drink either one.

Both have zero calories. Diet Coke was designed to NOT taste like Coke because Coke was getting its ass kicked by Pepsi. Diet Coke was designed to taste more like Pepsi. Coke Zero is supposed to taste more like Coke I believe.

Oh my bad. I totally thought Diet Coke had one calorie.

I think Coke Zero tastes more similar to Coke, but I like Diet Coke better because it doesn't taste as overpoweringly sweet. (Then again, it just tastes artificial.)

Edit: Then again, maybe it's different in other places, according to Wikipedia.

"In the UK, a 330 ml can of Diet Coke contains around 1.3 Calories (5 kilojoules) compared to 142 Calories (595 kJ) for a regular can of Coca Cola." (Text)

Diet Coke is based off of the Coke II (New Coke) formula.
Coke Zero is based off of the Coca-Cola Classic forumla.

Edit:
Coke II is based off of Diet Coke, which is entirely different than Coca-Cola Classic

The oracle knows all:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diet_Coke
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coca-Cola_Zero

Coca-Cola Zero, aka Coke Zero, named so because it contains no calories, is a product of the Coca-Cola Company. It is a synthetically sweetened variation of Coca-Cola Classic available in Australia and the United States.

Diet Coke does not utilize a modified form of the Coca-Cola recipe but is instead an entirely different formula. The controversial New Coke, introduced in 1985, used a version of the Diet Coke recipe that contained sugar and had a slightly different balance of ingredients.

Sort of, except Diet Coke existed long before New Coke. New Coke was based on Diet Coke.

See, the problem is, Coke tastes like crap and always has. But even when they introduce a better tasting soda (New Coke - proven by taste tests), people didn't like it because it was different. They had made Diet Coke taste more like Pepsi, because they were rapidly losing ground to Pepsi. They made New Coke taste more like Diet Coke, because Coca Cola Classic was rapidly losing ground to DIET Coke.

 Someone I know asked the Coke guy at the store when he was re-stocking the shelf, this is pretty much what he said.

For reference:
Coke Zero (when COLD) > Diet Coke w/ Splenda > A punch in the grapes from Stewie > Diet Coke

As for Splenda, I generally like things that use it. However, Pepsi One was destroyed by switching to it :(
