ST fiber connector size

We have an existing fiber run that connects two floors w/ 3 connectors. The box was installed about 4 years ago. One's being used, so we decided to get another fiber cable to utilize the existing cables.

The box has ST connectors so we bought a cable w/ ST ends.

Problem: The ST ends of the new cable we bought are slightly smaller than the connectors on the fiber box.

I thought these ST ends are like the de-facto standard nowadays; why are we seeing two different sizes?? Anyone know??

nope, ST is ST.

There are pins on the male end that need to be mated with the female before you can truly insert and "stick and twist" so to speak. Sometimes hard to really line it up.

There are different ferrule sizes out there. You might see if the cable in the box is labeled with the ferrule size.

really????

Must be a mutlimode/single mode thing then. I' ave never seen different ferrule sizes - but then again I've never tried to plug a multimode cable into a single mode recepticle and vis-versa.

Then again just this morning I tried to force a NEMA L5-20 into a NEMA L6-20 recepticle and scratched my head as to why it didn't work.

😉

Damn power people.

Alright; it turns out the colleague who tried to install the cable didn't know what he was doing 😛

I was able to get both cables installed and everything's working now.
Thanks for everyone's reply.
