SSL / Sign-in Problems

Hey all. I've been having some odd issues the last few days signing in to certain secure sites.

I can sign in at my university webmail and at paypal, and to some other SSL sites.
I can't sign in to Sprint to pay my phone bill, can't sign in to my bank, and I can't sign in to eBay.

I haven't changed anything with my router/firewall. No software or windows firewalls running. I thought maybe it was an issue with Firefox 1.5, but same thing happens in IE. The connection just times out before authenticating. (No, I haven't forgotten my user/passes, I haven't been phished or hacked, and my user/pass is different for each site.) Tried logging in from my desktop and my laptop both, and DMZing my laptop. No dice.

Any ideas as to what's going on or what else I can try?

Sign-in problems like these are usually browser security settings issues. But you are using two different computers and two different browsers, so that appears unlikely.

I don't have an answer for you. I would suggest, however, that you verify your nameserver:

Command Prompt: "nslookup"

Make sure that the nameserver IP address that comes back is reasonable. It should either be the IP address of your local router or your ISP's DNS server. I recently ran into a client with his DNS set to a Russian name server. (He'd clicked on the wrong popup ad.) The PC behaved a bit weirdly, and, of course, the fraud possibilities are endless once your DNS settings get pointed to an unfriendly server.
