Hello :) im champloo and i am new to this forum and the world of pc gaming. After about a year of dreaming of the idea, I've decided to make my own MAME cab, complete with high quality sawna denshi controls and ect. But first I want to make the pc that will be the brains of the operation. I know it doesn't take much computing power to emulate old arcade games but I also want this to play recent fighting games Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition, at the highest settings. Since a lot of the money is going into building the arcade cabinet structure, my budget is going to be pretty tight. Perhaps I could save money by skipping the pc case and mounting the motherboard inside the cabinet, like a real arcade board. What do you think? Any suggestions on how I could save the most money without sacrificing performance while playing street fighter?

I would think all you need is a computer powerful enough to run SSFIV AE and then i believe microsoft has the drivers for the TE sticks that you can just hook it in to the USB ports. Basically you should only need to worry about the cabinet, speakers, and screen. Also if you mount a mobo in the cabinet you have to make sure it's properly ventilated and grounded and somehow prevent a large accumulation of dust.

My laptop (p7508u) runs SSF4:AE flawlessly @ 1440x900\60fps. You can probably pick up a used one on ebay for 300-600 bucks. In a couple years, I might create a MAME cab as well out of this laptop. Also, if you get a blue-tooth module for the laptop, you can buy a BT mouse\keyboard, so that way you don't have to open up the cab so often.

As El Guaraguao has already noted, it doesn't take a lot to run SSFIV. Have you already picked all the parts for your build? I think that would be a good place to start.

Welcome to the General Hardware forum, champloo. Now that you've been moved here, please answer the questions in [thread=80121]this stickied thread[/thread] so that we can better help you.

P.S. Do search this forum for MAME threads - you're not the first one interested in this software.
