This may be an SSD specialist question.

I'm looking to grab this of NewEgg as its now $219. I'm assuming the *XXX in the model number says that there are multiple models of G2 NewEgg may ship. In the reviews I read one stating that certain mo #s gave problems. All articles mostly focus on G1 vs G2 aspects, nothing about dif mo #s. Should this be a concern?

There's a model with XXX at the end? Didn't know this exist. My model ends with GC, not XXX.

From what I know, most sell R5 and C1. R5 being the boxed version, C1 being the OEM version. Inside's the same.

I think the XXX stands for the fact they make no guarantees on which you will receive.

Can anyone clarify on whats the dif between Intel's 80GB G2 model numbers?

The only difference I'm aware of is retail/oem boxes - exactly the same drive only the retail version comes with a 2.5->3.5 adapter. You can get one rather cheap and all in all you don't even need one (duct tape works perfectly fine for the brave ones 😉 )

what newegg does is buy pallets of the 20PK bulk oem and break them up when they want to make more $$$. not always.

so you got retail - in retail box
oem - in oem box
20PK - oem brown box

irc the oem was 1 year warranty? retail was 3? i could be wrong maybe that was G1

p.s. the XXX could also be one-off versions designed for people (dell/hp/etc) that have different sku. Ark.intel.com usually has info on all combinations except custom manufacturer or grey-market.

I've seen engineering samples for sale (lol these are highly traceable) from people - not NEWEGG - and foreign market or defective units and they usually have different XXX combinations.

of course newegg would get spanked for selling most of those so they wouldn't dare.
