SSDs...

I just got my 240gig Seagate SSD from newegg. Are SSDs suppose to be lighter than the .001 ounce packaging they come in? It's my first time dealing with one, so I have no friggn clue. Just surprising how small it is...

Yup...all they are is a little circuit board with a few chips that make hdds look like ancient technology. I've seen an SSD shipped in just a 6x8 padded envelope (an anti-static bag ofc) with only 2 postage stamps needed. To this day I can't understand why all retailers don't offer them with free shipping as an incentive.

Before I removed my 2 830 that are being replaced with that Seagate 240 SSD and did a quick 2 minute se with magician.
Wish there was a toolbox like magician for that 240gig Seagate SSD.

That's essentially the size of the circuit board in an SSD. That board contains 1TB of Nand.

Seagate doesn't have a decent toolbox? I'm surprised at that... 😕

Try Samsung's Magician. I believe you can use most features of it, except for feature specific to the drive such as optimization. You may be able to use it for benchmarking, (it will keep a history of 32 benchmarks - I don't know if total or for each drive (it will also benchmark HDD's). That alone is fun to see the 100x random read benchmark over HDD's. That can be used to see if you are degrading in performance. The Magician software can also automatically adjust windows for three performance profiles for the SSD, and you can then also customize a profile. You can use it to over provision a samsung drive, I don't know if you can do it for a non-samsung drive. (if might do more than just unallocate space). Id try it out.

Doesn't work on a non-Samsung drive. Also, the new version of it will automatically mess with your power settings, any drive. I used to use it for benchmarking (it has a very nice benchmark utility) but for the squirrely power reasons I uninstalled it.

The only thing Samsung's Magicians can be used for with non Samsung drives is its speed test.
I use to run performance optimization once a month on both 830 which would always lead to better speed marks.
The performance optimization most likly did a better garbage collection.
