SSDs not yet standard on prebuilts?

A family member is shopping for an imac and it has come to my attention that SSDs are not standard issue in premium off-the-shelf desktops. What gives? I'm surprised Apple sells $2000 (and $3000) desktops with spindle drives.
 
Too expensive, not enough storage space. The largest SSD's are only 1TB (well, 960GB) and cost at least $550, whereas you can get a 4TB drive for like $170.
