SSD's in RAID-0

I'm beginning to design my new build and I wanted to make an ultra-fast storage subsystem.

My question is: what is the limitation in bandwidth between the South Bridge and Memory Controller?

I'm sure there is a physical limit to the amount of data that can be shoved through...

Would 3x Gen2 Intel SSDs approach this limit? (~800Mb/s reads)

As a side question: What is the likelihood of TRIM over RAID coming down the pipes for the new Intel chipset? It is my understanding that the limitation is actually drivers not hardware, but we still haven't seen the feature working in the wild yet.

Thanks in advance for insight on either question.

IIRC, people who run SSDs in RAID-0 with the onboard chipset max out around 600-650 MB/s. You will need a very expensive hardware RAID controller to push it beyond that. The Intel G2's max around 220 MB/s read, given the right factors. 3 of them can hit around 660 MB/s with the right data, so a 3 drive array would be about right.

TRIM for RAID seems pretty tricky, so I wouldn't bank on it until we actually see it rolled out. Even an announcement wouldn't get my attention until we see it in action. The Intel controller is pretty good about garbage collection so TRIM isn't too important for the drives, unless you are working with tons of random writes and erases. There is an anand article on a couple Intel drives in RAID-0 and he doesn't seem to think lack of TRIM is important for desktops.
