SSDs compatible with NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra chipset?

I am trying to get a SuperTalent 64GB SSD to work with my DFI NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra chipset motherboard, and whenever I plug the SSD into one of the SATA ports two things happen- the BIOS recognizes the drive at POST, but the computer locks hard (sometimes BSOD) when loading XP. The SSD works fine when I connect it to the computer via a USB adapter (to clone my current boot drive), but then the MB doesn't like it connected to the SATA port. Is there a driver I'm missing, or is there something else I'm missing. Any ideas?

TIA!!

Can you boot with the USB?

Is your disk one of the UltraDrive MEs that was on eBlast? Verify through the serial number you have firmware version 1571. I think v1711 has been called back. It is my understanding that Windows XP can only be 'copied' to an identical partition.

I'm interested in your SSD because I purchased 2 and may want to follow your travels (travails?) with an XP setup. You are my beta tester.

The internets are full of suggestions on how to optimize XP for a SSD

1. Can't boot from USB, but I can read and write to the drive over USB. Perhaps the clone didn't take properly.
2. I have the FTM64GX25H SSD, that has the 1571 firmware installed from the factory (serial number has DIX coding)
3. The computer locks and BSODs with the SSD connected to the second SATA channel and I'm trying to boot from the original HDD on SATA channel 1. I am not trying to boot from the SSD OR trying to install XP on the SSD; I'm simply trying to get the SSD to be recognized by XP.

Additional: I went ahead and reinstalled the 1571 firmware, and when I successfully partition the SSD and try to format it (NTFS) I get a "format didn't complete successfully" error just as the format progress bar gets to 100%. I'm starting to think I got a lemon........

That'd be my guess.
