SSD's and xp

I have a new computer with XP and was interested in ssd's. I have read that CCleaner (Wipe Free Space ) will do the same thing as Trim. Is this correct? How will it affect the SSD?

It's not the same as trim. It will write hex FF's or 00's to empty blocks, and may increase speeds for awhile. It writes to all the blank space of your drive, so it's a fairly large impact to lifetime. It -does- improve small-file performance on my Intel gen-1 drives.

Many of the current SSDs have their own clean up function built into the firmware of the controller. For example, Samsung based drives call this garbage collection. I'm not sure if others use that same term. It works independent of the OS so if you decide to get an SSD and run it with XP, I'd suggest you get one with a form of GC.
