SSDs and system restores

If my SSD (boot, OS) dies are there any differences I need to consider when restoring?

Also, if I don't have another SSD to hand at the time, can I just replace it with a mechanical drive and restore to that instead?

Will be using W7.

first no.
second not really . win7 should disable trim. if not you may need to do it manually.

keep in mind restoring a new drive may trip of activation systems of certain software. thankfully now that OGA is gone - it's one less thing to worry about.

TRIM would be the only thing but i've never had a problem and i've just done a X25-M 80gb to 80gb hd
