SSD's and 1,000's of fonts installed

Hi, i'm moving from OPerating system on HDD to ---> OS + programs on SSDs.

One thing i encounter daily is application lag in word, excel, photoshop, coreldraw, etc... and i think it is due to the > 1000 fonts i have installed. i know it goes against common advice to have that many fonts installed... but will SSDs mitigate that "lag"?

assume a system with 16-32 gigs ram.
high end processor
os + programs on an SSD

i'm curious if the "to many installed fonts" issue is a thing of the past with the advent of SSDs

Look up latency. you are going from 5-15ms to 0.01-0.1ms, multiply that times the thousands of files.

High end processors typically have 3 or 4 channel ram (3dpc) - 72gb-96gb .

With 512gb crucial M4's at $299, no reason to not pick up 2 or 4 ;)

The most fonts I've run on my system was ~750 (CS Suite). I was SSD-based already, and didn't notice any difference pre/post font installation. I was loving the responsiveness of the system before, and loved it no less after.

I have no comparison -/+ SSD, but it's probably safe to extrapolate here.

This is good news indeed :)
I'm gonna be in PC heaven after this upgrade.

...and I learned what latency means which I'm actually quite happy about!

SSD is definitely worth it but you might want to look into some kind of font manager too, like Extensis Suitcase.
