I just bought this drive and installed windows 7 on it. I keep seeing how everyone tweaks the drives to get the best performance out of them. How would I do that and do I need to? Thanks much!

Hey, that's my SSD!

I'm watching with you for replies. As I mentioned in another thread, I put my SNV425-S2/64GB in a Vista computer, so TRIM won't be available, and want to know what utilities to use for trash collection.

well, opinions seem to vary here on occasion :)

my take: if you installed win7 on it (as opposed to copying it over from an existing install) you dont need to do anything from a performance perspective. win7 is ssd aware and will set itself up optimized for ssds during the install. if there is a manufacturer util (ala intels SSD toolbox) it wont hurt to run it as per the instructions.

now, if you want to maximize space, disable hibernate and delete hiberfil.sys, cut restore points down to 1 or 2. reduce page file to min 100 MB, max of whatever you want.

you can also minimize writes to it in various ways, but realistically who cares.. you are paying for speed so I keep everything I can on it, including page file, temp files and caches.

Just delete it:

That's the first thing I do on fresh installs, especially on non-SSD drives :awe:

It may not be the latest/greatest SSD available, but it's still a considerable jump in performance against spindle drives.

Some programs are written to use the pagefile and may not work correctly without one. In most cases, you're better off setting the page file to your storage drive (assuming you have one).

Against a spindle drive yes, but from a value standpoint, there are much better SSds in that price range.
