SSD write latency concerns

Oh look, another indecisive user who can't decide between the OCZ Vector or Samsung 840 PRO. But I have a specific concern.

I hear the 840 PRO suffers from serious write latency issues due to its aggressive garbage collection. I've suffered them myself, as owner of a Samsung 840 PRO 128gb (the size where it gets worse). But I've read these issues are solved or nearly solved in 256gb version. Can anyone please confirm this?

I wouldn't want the ssd to slow down in the middle of use but rather to wait until the system is idle. If this is true about 840 PRO 256gb as it is for the 128gb then it's reason enough for me to pick the Vector.

Some thoughts...

What "use" will you put it through?

In what way have you "suffered them myself?" Something you measured through software? Something you felt through "seat of pants?"

Are you sure it was the SSD itself and not something else?

How full is your SSD? An SSD past around 70-80% full can cause latency issues on any SSD regardless of how aggressive garbage collection is. See the "performance consistency" charts on this page as an example. Click on the buttons under the charts with all the dots to see the difference between a full drive and one only filled to 75%. Samsung 840 Pro is on there as well as a number of other popular (currently) high performance SSDs, with high end SSD controllers from Samsung, LAMP, Marvell and SandForce all represented. Every single last one of them benefit from not being filled up all the way.
