SSD With HDD RAID Negative Performance

After patiently waiting for the price and performance of SSDs to settle, I finally plunked down the money for a new Intel X25-M 120G to use as my boot drive, moving the 2 Western Digital hard drives running in RAID 0 to SATA ports 3 & 4 to use as storage. Although my WEI jumped from 5.9 to 7.4 (and it does boot quicker), my systems performance in actual use is not so great.

When I initially boot the system in the morning, everything is fast and working great, but if I let the system sit idle for several minutes my Western Digital RAID 0 acts like a 5400 rpm USB drive that’s gone to sleep, and since all my files, (documents, downloads, music, pictures & video), are stored on the this RAID array it has a negative impact on the overall system performance.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

In power options change the time after which HDDs get turned off. By default its set to 20 mins which is too short.

Hey thanks! Didn't realize I had to dig into power settings, (other than to disable when the system goes to sleep). I have never had my secondary drives drop out like that when using XP, maybe it's just different with Win7. Anyway, it worked!
