Was also in the mid 80's in price just a few days ago (why it's now OOS)! :)

There were sub-200$ CDN 60GB Vertexes at NCIX on boxing day in Canada.
I imagine there are better deals south of the border.

Is the performance on par with the X-25 Gen. 2?

It appears it is gen 2 without TRIM...


I went ahead and decided on intels since I asked this question after reading several of anands articles.

40GB is barely big enough. 30GB is out of the question. After formatting you've only got 20-some GB.

After a bunch of searching...I purchased my Intel G2 X25M 80GB last week. I am pretty happy with it. Sure, there are cheaper ones...but I want known good performance with minimal hassle. It works great with Win 7 and has TRIM. I got mine from Macmall for $243 (retail) plus tax and shipping.
