So I installed an ssd in my bro in laws pc and installed windows 7 on it. It's been working fine for the last 2 weeks but he called me this morning stating that his pc rebooted and now says reboot and select proper boot device. I had him go into BIOS and the ssd is recognized in BIOS and is in the correct boot priority, but when he restarts the pc, the pc doesn't boot.

He's running the following:

asus p7p55d pro
i5 750
64gb ocz vertex (boot drive)
1tb seagate hd
xfx 5770
650w antec trupower psu
8gb g skill ripjaws 1600

I don't have access to his pc at this time, just giving him a few instructions over the phone for now. I'm thinking either I'll have to do a repair install or the ssd has finally had it. Weird that it's recognized in BIOS though on port 1.

Sounds like the boot information / MBR has been corrupted somehow.

Knowing my bro in law he was prob messing with it and now says he didn't do anything. I'm going to have him do a repair and possibly have him change ports.

he has an OCZ ssd...pretty normal they fail meanign are nto visible anymore and hence no boot drive can be found.

I suggest you first go to OCZ forums. Maybe they can help (at least to be able to create a backup) but chances are data is probably lost and you will need to RMA (if still in warranty).

For the future: Don't buy OCZ SSDs, don't buy SSDs with Sandforce Controller.
