Are SSD's better at having multiple applications running on the drive so doing read requests or write in multiple orders? I am not sure I am explaining myself really. For instance, if I am reading from my WD 640 GB drive and also writing to it.. think unraring an ISO that is on the drive so reading and then writing to the same drive. Obviously it's way slower than say having the ISO on one drive and extracting to another.

Do SS drives differ in this or will this be just as slow? Also if you have multiple apps "hitting" the same SSD at the same time.. think of 3 instances of Everquest (if anyone ever plays that still)... so you got 3 different instances all running from the same drive. Any benefits in reading from SSD over spindle? Or is all this categorized under random reads and writes?

SSD is a type of technology, it ranges from "much better" to "much worst" depending on the individual drive you choose to buy.

What you are describing is called random write / read. It is agreed upon to be what determines the speed of the OS. Of those it is agreed that:
1. Jmicron SSD is much worse than spindle drives
2. Samsung SSD is about the same as spindle drives
3. Indilinx (vertex, torqx, ultradrive ME, falcon, etc) is better than spindle drive
4. Intel is much better than spindle drive...

As such, only the intel and indilinx are worth buying.
