SSD Partition, Seperate Drive or Neither?

Hello,

I have been reading through some of these posts and trying to decide if I want to get one of these SSD drives. Got a question though. I currently have my main HDD partioned so that the OS is on its own. Has come in handy having had to reinstall the OS cleanly with no loss of my applications or data.

So what I am wondering is would you do something similiar with an SDD dirve, or would it be better to have like a 40GB SDD just for the OS and say a 120GB for games and programs. I still plan on having a regular HDD for storing photos etc. The only reason I say another SDD of the applications is from reading on here how much faster they load etc.

You can do the same seperate partioning with an SSD for the same reasons of separate OS/app install convenience. You won't gain anything for performance though.

Ok great. I was kinda confused about that. I thought I had read that on the SSD drives that it wont matter if you have it partitioned, that if you have to reformat one partition it does the entire thing so you normally "dont" do that.

So having your apps launch and run from an SSD wont be any faster than than just running from an HDD? Wouldn't be much point then. Why not just get a 40-60GB SDD and only have the OS on it?

He was saying that partitioning the SSD won't affect performance, not that using the SSD won't affect performance.

Yeah, what he said, sorry if I wasn't clear. You will get performance improvements using an SSD, but how you partition the SSD itself will make no real difference.
